The Grand Traverse Area 9/11 Memorial Park committee is made up of members of the community as well as member sof the Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department. Chief Pat Parker organized obtaining a 3,800 pound piece of steel from the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

Phase I will consist of a circular area of pavers with the artifact mounted in the middle ~ standing erect and pointing towards New York City. There will be a half circle seating wall behind the artifact that will contain three flag poles ~ United States Flag, State of Michigan Flag and the FDNY Flag.

Phase II will consist of a walkway from the parking lot which will be bordered with stone pavers engraved with all 343 of the Fallen Firefighters names. Along the middle of the path will be a timeline of the events leading up to the terrorist attack on the twin towers.

This Memorial Park will be a park that will be open to all community members to come and reflect on the events of 9/11/01 as well as the events in our country that have transpired since then. We have lost a tremendous amount of lives over the course of the past years and it is important to remember that this war or terror is not over.

We must Never Forget
